Sport England – Protecting Playing Fields funding

The first round of the Sport England Protecting Playing Fields programme will open on 25 May 2011. The programme aims to fund up to 300 playing fields across England, to help support participation and retention of people playing sport.

The programme will fund capital works that improve playing fields for sporting and community use and help to protect the long term sporting purpose of the field. Work is likely to involve creating new pitches or levelling or drainage of existing ones.

Organisations must own or intend to hold the freehold, or have a lease on the land for 25 years or longer. Land which is held “in perpetuity” or which is being transferred from public to community ownership will be prioritised.

Deadline: Round 1 is now closed.
Round 2 will open on 24 October 2011 and close on 12 December 2011. It is expected that there will be further rounds in 2012 and 2013.
